DJ Sax – The Butcha
DJ Sax began his journey in 1984, spinning records and making mixtapes in the Collinwood neighborhood of Cleveland’s 10th Ward on St. Clair Avenue. Perfecting his craft in an attic with the signature red light, he developed his unique style of cutting up records, earning the nickname The Butcha.
Starting with neighborhood parties, DJ Sax quickly rose through the ranks, rocking the hottest bars and premier nightclubs in downtown Cleveland. His reputation earned him opportunities to DJ private events for NBA stars like Ray Allen and Nick Van Exel. These high-profile gigs propelled him to new heights, leading him to spin for concerts and after-parties for legendary artists such as Wu-Tang Clan, Geto Boys, Dipset, Eightball & MJG, Too Short, and Paul Wall, among others.
Expanding his reach, DJ Sax took his talents to Houston, Texas, collaborating with Swisha House Records. There, he dropped five mixtapes with Michael “5000” Watts before heading to New York, where he hosted The ThrowBack to the Future Show on Scratchvision Radio with DJ Scratch of EPMD.
Currently based in Atlanta, DJ Sax continues to showcase his signature style. You can catch his mixes on platforms like 24/7Mixing.com, Regime Direct Radio (WRDR) in North Carolina, Cleveland’s 108.1 WNRV Radio, and OG 97.9 FM in Atlanta. When he’s not spinning at private upscale events, DJ Sax is relentlessly moving music culture forward, delivering cuts that leave the competition butchered.
